Since the death of my Daughter I have become very thin skinned, I can see why Joe Biden decided not to run for President, it definitely takes its toll on your soul. I'm not much on technology and feel the way we were 20 or 30 years ago was much better, putting the two things together I finally removed myself from Facebook, maybe some day when I feel stronger I will go back but right now I can see why people become recluses. So for now I will share my photos here on this website.

Going back to film has opened new avenues that I didn't even no existed 25 years ago, thanks to the internet I have found films that were never even meant to be used in the manner in which I am using them, recently rereading stories about Man Ray and his experimental photography I found out a interesting tid bit... We share the same Birthdate, maybe this has something to do with being totally insane, who knows. But I am looking to bringing some very interesting photographs to my pages and I hope you enjoy what I am trying to do...whether or not I am successful in producing anything thing of merit might be another story all together... Peace ----- and may Depression become a positive force !

Well I got my test film back from the Lab yesterday and it's a go, everything seems to be good, my balance between bright sun and shade seems to be a hair off so I'm using a 1 stop graduated filter to darken the sky just a hair. I put a Roll of expired color film in the Rollei and took Freedom for a walk, that is where I had a bit of a epiphany, people really respond to Freedom and his overall cuteness, he is a 7 pound strutting Mal-Shi, 1/2 Maltese and 1/2 Shih-tzu, just a beautiful dog with a lot of cuteness that seems to make people smile when they see him, I even had a gentleman drive up next to me and ask what kind of dog was he, saying he was the cutest dog he had ever seen, but that is just 1/2 of this epiphany, the other 1/2 is my Rolleicord, people see the Rollei and Freedom and are quite inquisitive and friendly, I've had people wave at me, point at us..anyways I think during my walks with Freedom I could convince a lot of people to pose for me, you know just a nice natural street shot.. so that is my goal, to photograph people around town and try to bring a smile and happiness to their faces.. wish me luck, whoever reads this stuff.... besides my body just can't handle the driving anymore and I love walking...footnote: Happy 40th Anniversary to my lovely bride Geneva.

August 29 2015 - Dream come true

At last I have a Rollei... yea I know it's not a Rolleiflex but I'm happier than pie. I've shot my test roll and sending it out Monday, I really love it and yes it is a Dream come true, I've wanted one for over 20 years and if I ever tire of the Rolleicord I might get a Rolleiflex, but this one has a beautiful Schneider lens and should do just fine.

Well I have forgotten to mention, since my retirement a year ago I have been fortunate enough to be published in three magazines, one book and a calendar, the latest being the first print of Visages Art and Literature Magazine, I also have taken to shooting some pictures of my home town, which is a very uninteresting town but that makes it more interesting if you get the jest.

Well it has been a while since I have been into the Blog, many things have passed and most have been quite depressing, the passing of my Father, then Brother and my youngest Daughter have left me in bit of a shambles. I have bought a couple Exakta 35mm cameras which I really enjoy shooting and they are not so damaging to my pocket book, so you will see some 35mm work done using expired film, I like the use of expired film over fresh rolls, I never know what to expect but so far it has been mostly good, my work in the Kern River Preserve is just about completed and I'm venturing off to other places but I have fallen in love of shooting pictures at home so landscapes are becoming less and less and trying to become creative in other areas. My depression has turned me inward and a bit more of a recluse, hopefully I can funnel these emotions into something worth while, who knows only time will tell.~ Peace

Stop Stinking up the house

Well back to digital, my wife has suggested I get another digital camera and set aside film for awhile.. I will be retiring in two weeks and she is correct, The Digital Camera is great for cutting cost.. so my friend film will be set aside for the time being.

Well the year is almost over, my retirement is just over the horizon and alot has happened lately. My Father passed away last September and my photography had to take a back seat during the last 7 months of his illness, I am still shooting very little digital but almost totally immersed into film, with the addition of 4X5 and 8X10 I am keeping busy, I still have a passion for medium format mostly the square format of 6X6cm but also the 645, I like the portability of medium format cameras and they are also more budget friendly compared to the Large Format, I feel as if I am still trying to find myself within the art of photography and looking for that uniqueness that will define who I am, so if anyone actually reads these blogs I guess all I can say is I hope you enjoy my journey, and feel free to tell me when you think I have hit the sweet spot.... being so close to me I sometimes can't see where I am going. ~ Peace~

The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles

This morning I drove out to the Pinnacles, there was some cloud cover and I wanted to shoot it on film instead of digital (the pic posted is digital), I believe I got some pretty good shots and I already dumped it off at the Post Office, it should be about a week to get it back..still waiting on another roll I dropped off last Monday.. so that also will be coming soon I hope.. this is definitely the draw back to doing film, I could develop it myself but I would still want a high res scan and I just don't think I could afford a scanner that does as well as the Lab.
